Vietnam Tu Duc Thong Bao 1848-1883 Nguyen Dynasty Annam Cast Cash Coin 25.6mm VG

Offered here is a genuine cast cash coin from Vietnam (Annam) of the Nguyen dynasty, attributed to Tu Duc Thong Bao (嗣德通寶), cast under Emperor Tu Duc (reigned 1848-1883), the longest-reigning Nguyen emperor, whose rule saw the start of French colonization. The attribution is read from the worn legend: the top and right characters are visible, while the bottom and left characters are weak.

Grade: Very Good (VG). The outer rim is full and the square hole is clean. The legend is heavily worn, with two characters partly readable. The reverse is worn with no clearly legible inscription.

Condition, please read: in fairness, this coin has a dark patina with rust-red deposits on the obverse rim and in the fields, plus green and gray corrosion spots on both sides and rough, granular cast surfaces. There is a small notch on the obverse rim. No cracks or bends seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
