No Date Coronet Matron Head Large Cent 1816-1839 Conservation Project 1C Copper

Date: Not visible (worn off) — Coronet / Matron Head type, struck 1816–1839 Mint: Philadelphia (no mint mark) Type: Coronet (Matron) Head Liberty Large Cent Composition: Copper | Denomination: 1 Cent Approximate grade: Fair — date worn, environmental damage — raw, ungraded A genuine early American large cent, roughly 190–210 years old. Liberty's coronet with LIBERTY, her profile and the curls are still visible, and ONE CENT inside the wreath is clear on the reverse. The date has worn away and both sides show heavy green corrosion (verdigris) and surface roughness from long exposure, with some copper showing through at the rims. An affordable filler or history piece, a fun coin to try to attribute, or a hands-on example of early U.S. copper. Please view all photos as part of the description. A Conservation Challenge Coin: This one is perfect for the collector who enjoys a project. Under the green verdigris there may be more detail waiting to be revealed — with patience and careful conservation, you might even bring back enough of the date to attribute it. A great practice piece for learning conservation techniques on genuine early American copper without risking a valuable coin. Sold as-is, exactly as pictured.

About the series: Large cents were the first coins made for circulation by the U.S. Mint, struck from 1793 to 1857 — each nearly the size of a modern half dollar. Early dates are attributed by Dr. William Sheldon’s die-variety numbers (S-numbers, 1793–1814) and later dates by Howard Newcomb’s (N-numbers, 1816–1857), with an R-rating for how rare each variety is.

  • Mint: Philadelphia
  • Composition: Copper

BOURNE2TREASURE
WHO WE ARE Bourne2Treasure is a family-owned business based in Dayton, TN, proud to be celebrating our 25th year in operation. Along the way we’ve earned over 27,000 pieces of feedback as a seller.
SHIPPING Every coin we sell ships in protective packaging — no exceptions. The exact container depends on the shipping class: for example, our Standard Envelope option is limited to a maximum of 1/4" thickness, so a bubble mailer isn’t used there. Instead, coins travel in a vinyl flip, a thick baggie, or a cardboard flip, whichever best protects that particular coin. We ship daily, Monday through Friday, excluding all USPS holidays.
RETURNS / GUARANTEE We maintain (unless otherwise noted on items like bullion) a 30-day, FREE-to-you return policy. All we want is happy customers — if you don’t like what we send, just send it back, free of charge.
QUESTIONS? CONTACT US Contact us Monday–Friday, 9–5 EST, with any questions or concerns. Our number one goal is happy customers who buy from us time and time again. If you ever have an issue, please let us know — and remember, our return policy above has you covered.
GRADING DISCLAIMER We arrive at an approximate grade using a combination of our own years of experience and, increasingly, Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are not a professional grading service, and any grade shown is only an approximation — please make your own determination based on the photos provided.
