1976 Postmasters of America American Chemical Society Sterling Proof Medal FDC

Offered here is the 1976 Postmasters of America Medallic First Day Cover, Commemorative Issue No. 6, "In Commemoration of the Centennial of the American Chemical Society," issued April 6, 1976 in New York, NY, 100 years to the day after the society was founded. It features a Limited Edition sterling silver proof medal struck by The Franklin Mint and sculpted by Donald Everhart II, sealed in the cover window.

What you get:

• Sterling silver (.925) proof medal, about 25 grams (about 0.74 troy oz of pure silver), about 39 mm. Weight and size are the published specs for this Franklin Mint series; the medal is sealed in the cover and was not weighed. Front: two chemists, a woman and a man, at work in the laboratory with flasks, tubing and an open lab notebook. Back: eagle over the POSTMASTERS OF AMERICA banner and shield, "1976 Commemorative Issue No. 6, Issued April 6, 1976, New York, New York."
• First day cover with the 13c Chemistry stamp (four laboratory flasks over a computer print-out background, designed by Ken Davies), canceled New York, NY, April 6, 1976, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE.
• Certificate of Authenticity printed on the back of the cover, signed by the executive directors of the National Association of Postmasters of the U.S. and the National League of Postmasters.
• Information card telling the story of the American Chemical Society, the stamp and the medal.
• All housed in a clear two-pocket album page.

Condition, please read: the medal itself looks bright, with proof mirrors and frosted devices. The fine lines and tiny specks you may see over the medal in the photos are on the clear plastic window of the cover, not on the medal: the lines run straight across both the devices and the raised edge of the window, and the specks are dust on the window. The cover, stamp, certificate, info card and album page look clean and bright. Please see all photos, which are the best description.

Ungraded and uncertified; the medal has not been removed from the cover. Ships flat and protected.
