Offered here is the 1974 Postmasters of America Medallic First Day Cover, Commemorative Issue No. 10, "In Commemoration of America's Mineral Heritage." It features a Limited Edition sterling silver proof medal struck by The Franklin Mint and sculpted by James Ferrell, sealed in the cover window.

What you get:

  • Sterling silver (.925) proof medal, about 39 mm and about 25 grams (published specification for this Franklin Mint series; about 0.74 troy oz of pure silver). The medal is sealed in the cover and was not removed to weigh. Front: pre-Columbian Indians mining copper. Back: eagle over the POSTMASTERS OF AMERICA banner and shield, "1974 Commemorative Issue No. 10, Issued June 13, 1974, Lincoln, Nebraska."
  • First day cover with the 10c Petrified Wood stamp set as a diamond, canceled Lincoln, NE, June 13, 1974, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE.
  • Certificate of Authenticity printed on the back of the cover, signed by the executive directors of the National Association of Postmasters of the U.S. and the National League of Postmasters.
  • Information card with a mounted mint block of four 10c Mineral Heritage stamps (Scott 1538-1541: Petrified Wood, Tourmaline, Amethyst, Rhodochrosite) and the story of the issue. These were the first U.S. stamps designed to be placed as a diamond.
  • All housed in a clear two-pocket album page.

Condition, please read: the medal shows bright proof mirrors with frosted devices. In fairness, there are light hairlines and a few small specks in the mirror fields, mostly on the eagle side; some of the lines may be on the clear window over the medal. The cover has a small blue ink stroke at the bottom edge of the blue medal panel and a few tiny specks near the right edge. The certificate side and the back of the info card show a few small specks. The stamp block is fresh and uncanceled. Please see all photos, which are the best description.

Ungraded and uncertified; the medal has not been removed from the cover. Ships flat and protected.
