1973 Panama Medio Balboa 1/2 Balboa KM12b Vasco Nunez de Balboa Rainbow Toned XF
Offered here is a 1973 Panama 1/2 Balboa (Medio Balboa), KM# 12b, with rainbow toning. One side shows the helmeted bust of the explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa; the other carries the coat of arms of Panama with its eagle, flags and the legend REPVBLICA DE PANAMA. About 1,000,000 business strikes were made for 1973, at the San Francisco Mint.
Toning: iridescent rose, gold and blue toning, strongest around the rims and legends, with mellow gray-gold centers. It looks natural. Colors are best judged from the photos, which have not been altered.
Condition: Extremely Fine. Light wear on the highest points (helmet dome, cheek, eagle's breast), with the helmet scrollwork, ruff collar, armor and wing feathers still sharp. There are scattered light hairline scratches and small contact marks in the fields, mostly on the Balboa side, and a few small marks on the helmet and shield. No rim damage or corrosion seen. Please see the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: copper-nickel clad copper (not silver)
