1971 Apollo 15 Scott Worden Irwin Sterling Medal 33g Version Mintage 31851 Toned

Offered here is a 1971 Apollo 15 sterling silver medal honoring the crew of David Scott, Alfred Worden and James Irwin, the fourth crewed Moon landing and the first mission to use the Lunar Roving Vehicle.

A hefty 33.2 grams of sterling silver! This is the heavier 33 g version; the medal was also struck in a lighter 26 g version. Weighed at 33.20 grams on our digital scale and tested Silver .925 Sterling on a Sigma Metalytics Precious Metal Verifier (both shown in the photos). That is about 30.71 grams, or 0.987 troy oz, of pure silver, nearly a full ounce. Diameter is about 39 mm.

One side shows the Apollo 15 mission emblem (three stylized birds over the lunar surface) inside the legend APOLLO 15 • SCOTT WORDEN IRWIN. The other side is a detailed scene of two astronauts on the Moon with the lunar rover, its dish antenna and equipment, with lunar mountains behind. The design matches the Franklin Mint "Eyewitness" Apollo 15 medal of 1971, and the small maker's marks in the field are consistent with Franklin Mint. Mintage: 31,851 (the figure listed in the Numista catalog; we could not confirm whether it covers both the 33 g and 26 g versions or only one).

Incredible toning! This medal has gorgeous, original-looking toning: rich golden and amber tones across both sides, deepening around the astronauts, the rover and the mission emblem, with rose and blue-violet iridescence flashing through the fields as the light moves. It gives the moonscape real depth and makes the relief jump. The angled photos show how the colors shift; it is even better in hand.

Condition: sharp detail with no real wear, with the toning described above. This is a medal, not a coin, and it is ungraded; please see all the photos.

No box, card or paperwork is included; the medal ships in a protective holder.

The medal shown is the exact medal you will receive.

  • Composition: Silver (0.925 fine)

Ungraded and uncertified unless stated otherwise; any grade mentioned is our opinion only. THE ITEM SHOWN IS THE EXACT ITEM YOU WILL RECEIVE.

BOURNE2TREASURE
WHO WE ARE Bourne2Treasure is a family-owned business based in Dayton, TN, proud to be celebrating our 25th year in operation. Along the way we’ve earned over 27,000 pieces of feedback as a seller.
SHIPPING Every coin we sell ships in protective packaging — no exceptions. The exact container depends on the shipping class: for example, our Standard Envelope option is limited to a maximum of 1/4" thickness, so a bubble mailer isn’t used there. Instead, coins travel in a vinyl flip, a thick baggie, or a cardboard flip, whichever best protects that particular coin. We ship daily, Monday through Friday, excluding all USPS holidays.
RETURNS / GUARANTEE We maintain (unless otherwise noted on items like bullion) a 30-day, FREE-to-you return policy. All we want is happy customers — if you don’t like what we send, just send it back, free of charge.
QUESTIONS? CONTACT US Contact us Monday–Friday, 9–5 EST, with any questions or concerns. Our number one goal is happy customers who buy from us time and time again. If you ever have an issue, please let us know — and remember, our return policy above has you covered.
GRADING DISCLAIMER We arrive at an approximate grade using a combination of our own years of experience and, increasingly, Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are not a professional grading service, and any grade shown is only an approximation — please make your own determination based on the photos provided.
