Offered here is a 1961 Canada 25 cents, the classic caribou quarter struck in 80% silver at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. This is the Queen Elizabeth II first-portrait type (KM# 52, 1953-1964), with Emanuel Hahn's caribou head on the reverse. Canada's quarters were 80% silver through 1966, so this is a genuine silver coin with about 0.15 oz of pure silver.

Grade: Fine (F). The legends ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA and CANADA are bold and clear of the rims, and the date 1961 and 25 CENTS are sharp. The caribou's antlers are complete with all their tines, and the head, ear and eye are well outlined. The Queen's hair is worn smooth on top with some strands left at the back by the ribbon. Attractive natural gray toning with olive tones on the portrait and blue and purple hints near the rims.

Condition, please read: in fairness, there is a thin scratch on the obverse across the Queen's cheek and jaw, plus a few fine hairlines in the field in front of her face. Both sides have scattered small contact marks from circulation, including a small mark on the reverse below 25 CENTS. No holes, bends, rim damage or corrosion seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
