Offered here is a genuine 1960 (AH 1379) Maldive Islands 10 laari (also seen as "larees"), KM# 46, from the reign of Sultan Muhammad Fareed Didi. This attractive 12-scalloped nickel-brass coin shows the national emblem: a date palm above the crescent and star, crossed flags and a scroll, with both the Western date 1960 and the Hijri date 1379. The other side carries a large "10" with legends in Arabic and Dhivehi (Thaana) script. 1960 is the only date listed for the nickel-brass 10 laari, with a reported mintage of only 600,000.
Grade: About Uncirculated (AU). The palm fronds, flag edges and emblem detail are sharp, and the "10" and lettering are crisp, with only light wear on the highest points.
Condition, please read: the coin has natural toning with scattered small dark, orange and green spots, including a ring-shaped spot and small green spots near the "1" on the value side and darker spots around the emblem and date. There are fine hairlines and light contact marks in the fields on both sides, and a small light deposit by the script at lower right of the value side. No holes, bends or rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
