Offered here is a genuine New York City Transit Authority "small Y" subway token, the first token the Transit Authority issued, introduced in July 1953 when the fare went from a dime to 15 cents and used until 1970. One side reads NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT AUTHORITY around the NYC monogram; the other reads GOOD FOR ONE FARE. The Y of NYC is cut clean through the token, the design New Yorkers remember.

Grade: VF (Very Fine). All lettering on both sides is bold and complete, the crosshatched background in the outer ring is clear all the way around, and the N and C keep their textured surface, with even wear on the high points of the letters and the rim.

Condition, please read: even brass-colored patina with some darker and reddish toning spots. A small dark spot just below the bottom of the Y cutout on the New York City Transit Authority side, and a few small dark specks along the edges of the cutout. Small scattered marks and light scuffs in the fields, typical of a token that was used in circulation. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.

Composition: brass
Size: 16 mm
Dates of use: 1953 to 1970 (undated)
Issuer: New York City Transit Authority

Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
