Offered here is a 1945 Lincoln Wheat cent, struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark below the date). Cents of 1944 to 1946 were made from "shell case" brass, the World War II composition that followed the 1943 steel cent, and 1945 was the last year of the war.

The date 1945 is clear, IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY are complete, and ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM are bold on the reverse.

Grade: Fine, Brown. Lines remain in the upper parts of both wheat ears, the cheek and jaw are separated, and the ear and bow tie are outlined. Even wear on the hair, cheek and coat.

Condition, please read: in fairness, the obverse has green verdigris (corrosion) around the edge of Lincoln's bust and below it near the rim, with rough, pitted surfaces on the face, hair and coat, and a few dark spots in the field. There are a few light scratches in the obverse field and several fine scratches on the reverse, mostly through and below ONE CENT, plus a few small nicks on the rim, most visible on the reverse. The reverse surfaces are smoother, even brown. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.

Composition: 95% copper, 5% zinc (shell case brass)
Designer: Victor D. Brenner
Condition: Ungraded (raw coin, not certified)
