Offered here is a 1943 Mercury (Winged Liberty Head) dime, struck at the Philadelphia Mint during World War II. There is no mint mark on the reverse, left of the fasces base, which is correct for Philadelphia. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the Mercury dime is one of the most admired U.S. silver designs.
The date 1943 is clear, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST are bold, and every letter of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE DIME stands clear of the rim.
Grade: Very Fine. The vertical rods of the fasces are complete, the horizontal bands are visible, and the diagonal bands show on the fasces. The wing feathers are partly separated and the hairline shows, with the highest points of the hair curls and wing worn smooth. Even gray silver color with darker toning around the devices.
Condition, please read: a thin curved line in the field just left of the date, light hairlines and small marks on the cheek and neck, and scattered small marks from circulation on both sides. No rim damage or holes. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: 90% silver, 10% copper (0.0723 oz actual silver weight)
Condition: Ungraded (raw coin, not certified)
The coin comes in a cardboard 2x2 flip with writing by others, as shown in photos 3 and 4.
The coin shown is the exact coin you will receive.
