Offered here is a 1943-D Lincoln wheat cent from the Denver Mint, the famous World War II year when cents were struck in zinc-coated steel so copper could go to the war effort. 1943 is the only year of the steel cent.

Please note: this coin has been 24 KT gold plated after it left the mint. The plating was done by The Merrick Mint, a private company that is not affiliated with the U.S. Mint. It is a genuine 1943-D cent with an added gold-plated finish, sold as a collectible and gift piece, not as a mint-state steel cent. The gold plating is a thin surface layer, so the coin has no gold bullion value.

Condition: the design shows no visible circulation wear under the plating, with full wheat lines and sharp lettering. Because the surface is plated, the coin cannot receive a numeric grade from a grading service. Under magnification the plating shows a few fine hairlines and tiny specks, mainly in the obverse field. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.

Included: the coin in a round plastic capsule, attached to its original "Vintage Collectable Coin" card with The Merrick Mint Certificate of Authenticity on the back, in a clear sleeve.

Year: 1943
Mint: Denver (D mint mark below the date)
Composition: zinc-coated steel, 24 KT gold plated (after-market)
