Offered here is a 1941-D Jefferson nickel struck at the Denver Mint, with the D mint mark to the right of Monticello on the reverse. This is a pre-war copper-nickel issue from the early years of the Jefferson design, struck before the wartime silver nickels of 1942-1945.
Grade: Fine. On the obverse, Jefferson's hair shows its main waves with partial detail behind the ear, the cheekbone and the top of the hair are worn smooth, and IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and the date are full and clear of the rim; the obverse alone is close to Very Fine. The reverse is weaker: Monticello's roofline, dome and wings are outlined, but the pillars, windows and steps are mostly worn flat. All reverse lettering, including MONTICELLO and FIVE CENTS, is full.
Condition, please read: in fairness, the reverse has a thin vertical scratch running down through the center of the building, with other light marks across the building, and a tiny dark spot in the O of OF. There is a small nick on the left reverse rim, and scattered small marks on Jefferson's cheek, neck and coat and in the obverse fields. Even gray color. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: 75% copper, 25% nickel (not silver)
Designer: Felix Schlag
Condition: Ungraded (raw coin, not certified)
