1938-D Buffalo Nickel 5C Last Year of Type Denver Mint Full Horn BU UNC Toned
Offered here is an uncirculated 1938-D Buffalo (Indian Head) nickel from the Denver Mint. The 1938-D is the last year of the Buffalo nickel: it was the only Buffalo struck in 1938 before the Jefferson nickel replaced James Earle Fraser's classic design. Mintage was 7,020,000.
The strike is sharp, with a full horn on the bison, crisp fur on its head and shoulder, and clear hair and feather detail on the Indian. The D mint mark sits below FIVE CENTS.
Grade: Uncirculated (Choice BU). There is no wear on the high points of the cheek, the hair above the braid, or the bison's head, shoulder and hip, and the luster rolls unbroken across the fields as the coin is turned.
Toning: the coin has original golden tan toning with touches of rose and blue, strongest on the bison's head and through the Indian's hair and feathers. Please see the angled photos for how it looks in the light.
Condition, please read: light scattered contact marks and a few tiny dark specks near the obverse rim, as is normal for an uncirculated nickel. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: 75% copper, 25% nickel
Condition: Ungraded (raw coin, not certified)
The coin shown is the exact coin you will receive.
