Offered here is a 1938 Double Dated Nickel Collection: the two nickels the U.S. Mint struck in 1938, the year one design ended and the next began. It holds a 1938-D Buffalo nickel, from the last year of James Earle Fraser's Indian Head design (1913-1938), and a 1938 Jefferson nickel (Philadelphia, no mint mark), from the first year of Felix Schlag's Jefferson design.
1938-D Buffalo nickel: Extremely Fine (XF). Bold date, LIBERTY and D mint mark, full horn, strong feather and braid detail, and well defined fur on the bison's head and shoulder. Light wear on the high points (cheek, hair above the braid, bison's shoulder and hip). A few light marks; no rim damage or corrosion seen. Mintage 7,020,000.
1938 Jefferson nickel: Very Fine (VF). Even wear on the cheek, hair and Monticello, with the hair lines, lettering and building outline still clear. It has scattered hairline scratches and small marks, mostly on the portrait side. No rim damage or corrosion seen. Mintage 19,496,000.
Holder: both coins come sealed in the original "Double Dated Nickel 1938 Collection" plastic display case with a printed certificate of authenticity on the back (numbered 13051). The case has light surface scuffs. The photos were taken through the case. This is a display holder, not a grading service slab; the coins are raw and ungraded.
Composition: 75% copper, 25% nickel (both coins; not silver)
Grade: ungraded (raw)
Please see the photos, which are the best description. The coins shown are the exact coins you will receive.
