1930 Japan 5 Yen Gold Convertible Banknote Sugawara Michizane Kitano Shrine P-39
Offered here is a genuine pre-war Japan 5 Yen Bank of Japan gold convertible note, undated (issued from 1930), Pick 39. The front shows statesman and scholar Sugawara no Michizane at right and the Kitano Tenman-gu Shrine in Kyoto at left, under the imperial chrysanthemum crest. The note promises to exchange for five yen in gold coin. Block (278), serial number 525557. The back has the plum blossom "5" rosette and "5 YEN" in English.
Condition: heavily circulated, Good. The design, portrait, serial and block numbers are all complete and readable. In fairness, this note has seen hard use: the upper right corner is missing, the edges are ragged with several small tears (mostly along the left and bottom edges), it has horizontal and vertical folds, the paper is soft, and there is soiling and dark staining, heaviest along the top and left side of the back. Please see the photos, which are the best description.
Denomination: 5 Yen
Issued: ND (1930)
Grade: ungraded (raw)
The note ships in a protective sleeve.
The note shown is the exact note you will receive.
