Offered here is a 1924 Buffalo nickel from the Philadelphia mint (no mint mark below FIVE CENTS), mintage 21,620,000. It is the Type 2 design, with FIVE CENTS in the recessed panel below the bison's flat ground line.

Date, please note: this is a partial date. The 24 is readable (see the close-up photo); the 19 has worn away, as is common on Buffalo nickels because the date sits on a high point of the design.

Grade: About Good, partial date, with Very Good details. The grade is held at About Good by the date. The rest of the coin is better: the rims are full on both sides, LIBERTY is complete and clear of the rim, and the Indian's profile, braid and feathers are outlined. On the reverse, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and FIVE CENTS are bold, part of the horn shows, and the bison's head fur and tail are outlined.

Damage, please read: in fairness, there is a small round hole or puncture on the hair at the top of the Indian's head, just below the feather tips (pinhole size, plain in the obverse photos). The coin also shows even circulation wear, a few light scratches on the cheek and the bison's side, and scattered small marks on both sides. No rim damage or corrosion seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.

Composition: 75% copper, 25% nickel
Designer: James Earle Fraser
