Offered here is a genuine 1916-D Buffalo (Indian Head) nickel struck at the Denver Mint. The 1916-D is a better date in the series, with a mintage of about 13.3 million, far below the Philadelphia issue of the same year. The D mint mark is clear below FIVE CENTS on the reverse.
Grade: Very Good Plus (VG+). All four digits of the date are readable, though flat. LIBERTY stands apart from the rim, the reverse rim is full and separate from the legends and mint mark, and the bison shows a partial horn outline with good leg and tail detail.
Condition, please read: the coin shows even circulation wear and scattered small dark spots and light pitting, mostly in the reverse field and on the bison, plus a few light scratches and contact marks on the Indian's cheek and in the obverse field. No holes, bends or rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
