1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent 1C VF Very Fine Rainbow Toned Toner First Year PennyOffered here is a 1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent from the Philadelphia Mint, the first year of the Lincoln cent. This is the plain 1909 (no V.D.B. initials on the reverse); 72,702,618 were struck. The highlight of this coin is its toning: rose, gold, green and blue color covers both sides, with the strongest rainbow color across the reverse fields. Lincoln’s hair and beard show good detail, and the date, LIBERTY and wheat stalks are clear. A close-up angle photo is included. Designed by Victor David Brenner, the Lincoln cent debuted in 1909 for the 100th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth, the first circulating US coin to show a real person.
