Offered here is a 1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent with no VDB — a first-year Lincoln cent. Released to mark the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, it was the first regular U.S. coin to feature a real person. Designer Victor David Brenner’s initials (VDB) appeared on the earliest strikes, but were removed within days after public complaints, so this no-VDB Philadelphia issue was struck in large numbers. Sharp lettering, strong hair detail and warm original surfaces.
