Offered here is a 1903 Indian Head cent from the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark), one of the late-date bronze Indian cents struck in the final years of the series before the Lincoln cent arrived in 1909.
Grade: XF (Extremely Fine). The feathers keep their outlines with center lines and barbs on most of them, the ribbon stands apart from the hair, and the headband with LIBERTY is clear, though some letters are softer than others. On the reverse the shield lines are crisp with little blending, and the oak wreath, bow and arrows show light, even wear with leaf detail intact. Strong date and legends, full rims with denticles all the way around.
Condition, please read: there is a dark smudge or stain across the lower cheek and jaw. Small green verdigris spots sit near the rim by the date and by the feather tips on the obverse, and on the upper right of the reverse wreath. The reverse has a few light scratches and marks in the field around ONE CENT, and there are a couple of tiny orange spots on the coin. Even medium brown color. Please look at all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Mintage: 85,092,703
Condition: ungraded, raw coin. The grade is our opinion only.
The coin ships in a protective holder.
The coin shown is the exact coin you will receive.
