Offered here is a 1903 Indian Head cent from the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark), struck in bronze in the last decade of the Indian cent series, which ended in 1909.
Grade: Very Fine (VF). All the letters of LIBERTY can be traced on the headband, softest at the ends, and the feathers in the headdress are all separate with clear outlines and many inner feather lines, worn at the tips. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date are bold, with full denticles all the way around. On the reverse, ONE CENT is bold, the shield lines are sharp and the oak wreath, bow and arrows show good detail with even wear on the high points.
Condition, please read: even medium brown. There are scattered light scratches across the cheek, headband and feathers and light marks in the fields, best seen in the angled photos. There are a few small rim nicks and bumps on both sides (obverse rim above UNITED and to the right of OF; reverse rim on the left and upper right), some darker spots in the obverse field between the feathers and OF and left of the neck, and a dark spot in the reverse field. Small greenish deposits sit in the recesses of the ONE CENT letters and the wreath. Please look at all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Mintage: 85,094,493
Condition: ungraded, raw coin. The grade is our opinion only.
