Offered here is a 1903 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark), a genuine penny more than 120 years old.
Grade: Fine. Full rims and bold denticles on both sides, a bold date and a complete UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Every feather is outlined, with detail showing toward the tips, and the hair curl and ribbon are distinct. The reverse is the stronger side: the vertical lines of the shield are clear and separate, ONE CENT is bold, and the oak wreath shows leaf clusters in relief with a distinct bow and arrow tips. The headband is worn and LIBERTY is not readable in the photos, so the grade rests on the rest of the detail.
Condition, please read: even medium chocolate brown with natural surfaces and slightly darker toning around the devices. There are faint hairline scratches across the portrait and feathers and a few light lines in the reverse field, plus a couple of small nicks on the rim, all consistent with circulation. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 85,094,493
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
