Offered here is an 1898 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint. A sharp, high-grade example for an Indian cent date set or a type collection.
Grade: Choice About Uncirculated (AU). Full, crisp LIBERTY on the headband, with diamond detail on the ribbon. Every headdress feather is separated with center lines and barbs showing right to the tips, and the hair curls keep their strand detail. Only a trace of friction on the highest points of the cheek and the hair above the eye. The reverse is very sharp, with fully separated shield lines, veined oak leaves and a crisp ribbon and arrows. Luster shows in the fields in the angled photos. Full rims, complete legends and a bold date.
Color: attractive chocolate to reddish brown with violet highlights on the obverse and a warm olive-brown reverse.
Condition, please read: a few small dark flecks and light contact marks in the fields, and a small rim bump on the reverse at about 10 o'clock (left of the shield). Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 49,823,079
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
