Offered here is an 1894 Indian Head cent from the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark), struck in bronze. With a mintage of about 16.7 million, the 1894 is the lowest-mintage Indian cent from 1880 to 1899 and a recognized better date in the series.
Grade: Good (G). The portrait and every feather of the headdress are fully outlined, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date are bold, and the rims are full with denticles all the way around. On the reverse, ONE CENT is bold, the shield lines are clear, and the wreath, bow and arrows are well outlined. LIBERTY on the headband is worn away, so we grade it Good, a strong Good with a reverse that is better than the obverse.
Condition, please read: even medium brown. The obverse has a short dark gouge in front of the headdress at the forehead, light scattered scratches on the cheek, neck and headdress, and small dark spots at the rim by the 1 and above the 4 of the date. The reverse has light scratches across the shield and a few light marks in the fields. There are a couple of small rim nicks. Please look at all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Mintage: 16,752,132
Condition: ungraded, raw coin. The grade is our opinion only.
The coin ships in a protective holder.
