Offered here is an 1885 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of under 12 million, 1885 is one of the better dates of the 1880s and is much harder to find in mid grades than the common dates that follow it.
Grade: Extra Fine (XF). Full, bold rims and denticles on both sides with a sharp date and complete legends. The headdress shows strong feather detail with clear center veins, both edges of the headband are sharp, and most of the LIBERTY letters can be read. The reverse is strong: crisp shield lines, an oak wreath with leaf veins showing, and a distinct ribbon and arrows.
Condition, please read: medium chocolate brown with copper highlights and some violet-blue toning on the reverse. There is a dark toning streak on the reverse running from the right of the shield down through the E of ONE, a small lighter spot in the left obverse field below STATES, and a few light scattered marks from circulation. No rim damage. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 11,765,384
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
