Offered here is an 1876 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of just 7,944,000, the 1876 is a recognized semi-key date and one of the lower-mintage Indian cents of the 1870s, a tough date to fill in a set.
Grade: Very Good (VG). Full, bold rims and denticles on both sides, with a sharp, complete date and legends. The headdress is fully outlined with every feather separated, and the portrait, chin and hair ribbon show clear outlines. The reverse is strong for the grade: crisp vertical shield lines, an oak wreath with leaf detail, and a distinct bow, ribbon and arrows.
Condition, please read: even medium chocolate brown with lighter copper highlights. LIBERTY on the headband is worn away, as is typical at this grade. There is a small dark spot on the reverse rim at 12 o'clock just above the shield, and light scattered contact marks consistent with circulation. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 7,944,000
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
