Offered here is a genuine United States 50 Cent Fractional Currency note, Fifth Issue (Series of 1875), with the portrait of William H. Crawford, Secretary of the Treasury 1817 to 1825. The Fifth Issue was the last of the fractional notes, printed from 1874 to 1876 to stand in for silver change that disappeared from circulation during and after the Civil War. Red Treasury seal, signatures of John Allison (Register) and John C. New (Treasurer). Green back with "Act of March 3rd 1863" and "Act of June 30th 1864", printed by Jos. R. Carpenter, Philadelphia.
Grade: VG to Fine (Very Good to Fine). The portrait, lettering, red seal and green back are all bold and fully readable, with good color for the age. The paper is soft from circulation, with many folds and creases.
Condition, please read: in fairness, there is a split along the center fold at the top edge, a split coming in from the right edge of the back near the "50", a small piece missing at the upper left corner, and rough, nicked edges. The paper is evenly toned with light soiling, and the back shows many fine surface lines and scuffs. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.

Portrait: William H. Crawford
