Offered here is an 1871 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint. The 1871 is a well-known semi-key date in the series, with a low mintage of just 3,929,500 and far fewer surviving today. A tough date for any Indian cent set.

Grade: Very Good (VG). Full rims on both sides with a bold, complete date and full legends. Every feather is outlined and separated, with detail near the bases, and parts of the headband show. The reverse is strong for the grade: the shield lines are bold and separate, and the oak wreath, ribbon and arrows show clear outlines and leaf detail.

Condition, please read: medium to dark chocolate brown. The surfaces are rough and porous, with fine pitting most visible on the portrait and headdress (environmental). There is a dark corrosion spot in the left field in front of the neck, a few smaller dark spots near the obverse rim, and scattered dark spots on the reverse in the wreath and around ONE CENT. No rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.

Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 3,929,500

Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
