Offered here is an 1870 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of only 3,890,000, the 1870 is one of the scarce early bronze dates and one of the "big four" semi keys of the series (1869, 1870, 1871, 1872), a tough date to find with this much detail.
Grade: About Uncirculated (AU). A sharp, high-grade example of this scarce date. Full, bold rims and dentils on both sides, a sharp date and complete legends. The headdress feathers are nearly complete, the ribbon stands fully separate from the hair, and the hair curl is distinct. The reverse is strong, with the shield lines standing mostly separate, a boldly detailed oak wreath, and a crisp ribbon and arrows.
Condition, please read: even medium brown with natural, original-looking surfaces. There are scattered light marks, and LIBERTY on the headband is softly struck. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 3,890,000
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
