1869 Indian Head Cent Penny 1C Good Semi-Key Date Only 6.42 Million Minted
Offered here is an 1869 United States Indian Head Cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark). With a mintage of only 6,420,000, the 1869 is one of the scarcer semi-key dates of the Indian Head cent series.
Approximate grade: Good (G). LIBERTY is worn off the headband and the feathers show their outlines with only base detail. The date 1869 and the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are bold and stand clear of the rim. On the reverse the oak wreath is outlined with little leaf detail left, the vertical lines in the shield still show, ONE CENT is readable with the O and N of ONE weak, and the rims are full on both sides. Even tan-brown color.
Condition, please read: in fairness, this coin has scratches. There is an "A"-shaped scribe mark on the portrait below the feathers, and a scratch running from the neck toward the rim to the left of the date. On the reverse, two long scratches run down through ONE CENT, with another from the E of ONE toward the wreath. Fine hairline scratches cover both sides, and the surfaces are slightly rough and grainy. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Mintage: 6,420,000
Denomination: 1 Cent
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. The coin ships in a protective holder.
