Offered here is an 1868 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint. 1868 is one of the scarcer early bronze dates, with a mintage of just over 10 million, and it is tough to find this sharp.

Grade: XF+ (Extremely Fine). All seven letters of LIBERTY are full and clear on the headband. The headdress feathers keep their center lines and barbs, with light wear only on the tips, and the hair curls and ribbon at the neck are well defined. The reverse is sharp, with separate shield lines, leaf detail in the oak wreath and a crisp ribbon and arrows. Full rims and a bold date.

Eye appeal: rainbow toning in pink, violet, gold and blue-green on both sides, which really comes alive under direct light (see the close-ups on the dark background). In ordinary room light the coin shows an even chocolate brown.

Condition, please read: a few light marks from circulation, including a small dark spot in the field above the headdress, and the surfaces show a slight grainy texture under strong magnification. No rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.

Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 10,266,500

Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
