Offered here is an 1866 Indian Head cent, struck in bronze at the Philadelphia Mint the year after the Civil War ended. With a mintage under 10 million, 1866 is one of the scarcer early bronze dates and a semi key for anyone building an Indian cent set.
Grade: Good Plus (G+). Full rims on both sides with a bold, complete date and full legends. Every feather in the headdress is outlined and separate from the head. The reverse is strong for the grade, with clear shield lines, a fully outlined oak wreath showing some leaf detail, and a distinct ribbon and arrows.
Condition, please read: even medium brown, with golden-copper highlights on the reverse. The obverse shows several light scratches across the portrait, headdress and left field, including a longer line running from the left field through the face and into the feathers. A few light scratches on the reverse. No rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 9,826,500
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
