1866 Indian Head Cent 1C Good Better Date Low Mintage Bronze Post Civil War
Offered here is an 1866 United States Indian Head Cent in bronze, struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark). The 1866 is a better date in the series, with a mintage of under 10 million, struck the year after the Civil War ended. Approximate grade: Good. The date is bold and UNITED STATES is complete; OF AMERICA is weaker, with OF faint and close to the rim. The feathers are outlined and separate from the head, with no LIBERTY on the headband, as expected in Good. The reverse is stronger, with clear vertical lines in the shield, ONE CENT bold, the oak wreath outlined and denticles showing along the lower rim.
Please note: dark brown color with somewhat rough surfaces and grayish deposits, mostly in the wreath and in the fields. A small dark spot near the rim on the obverse, to the right of the portrait. The obverse rim is worn low at the upper right. No rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 9,826,500
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
