Offered here is an 1865 United States Indian Head Cent in bronze, struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark) in the last year of the Civil War. Approximate grade: Good+ (upper end of Good). UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is complete and the date is bold, with full rims all the way around on both sides. The feathers are outlined and separate from the head, with no LIBERTY on the headband, as expected in Good. On the reverse the shield lines are clear, ONE CENT is bold and the oak wreath is outlined with faint leaf detail.
Please note: dark brown to olive color with granular, porous surfaces and greenish deposits on both sides, heaviest in the reverse wreath and fields (old environmental corrosion). A few small light spots on the obverse. No rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 35,429,286
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
