1864 Copper-Nickel Indian Head Cent 1C VG Very Good CN Last Year Civil War Coin
Offered here is an 1864 United States Indian Head Cent in copper-nickel, struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark). 1864 was the last year of the thick copper-nickel cent before the change to bronze partway through the year, and these were struck during the Civil War. Approximate grade: VG (Very Good). The date and legends are bold and the feathers are boldly outlined and separated, with detail at the base. LIBERTY on the headband does not show, which is common on the copper-nickel cents. The reverse is strong, with clear vertical lines in the shield and a full oak wreath with the leaf clusters outlined. Full rims with denticles on both sides. Even tan-gray color typical of copper-nickel.
Please note: light scratches and marks on the portrait, mainly across the cheek, neck and hair, plus scattered small marks in the fields. A tiny green spot on the reverse just left of the shield, where it meets the wreath. No rim damage seen. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
Composition: copper-nickel (88% copper, 12% nickel)
Denomination: 1 Cent
Mintage: 13,740,000 (copper-nickel)
Ungraded and uncertified. The approximate grade is our opinion only. THE COIN SHOWN IS THE EXACT COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE.
