1863 Indian Head Cent 1C — Civil War Date — VF
On offer is an 1863 Indian Head Cent in Very Fine condition — a true Civil War date struck in the thick copper-nickel "white cent" composition that circulated while paper money and coin hoarding ruled the wartime economy. The feather tips show good separation, the headband is well outlined, and the oak wreath and shield on the reverse are bold and complete. A few light old hairlines on the cheek are shown honestly in our photos.
1863 saw one of the largest cent mintages of the era, and these chunky copper-nickel cents were workhorses of wartime commerce. An attractive, problem-free-look mid-grade example of a date everyone wants for the Civil War connection.
