Struck in copper-nickel at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark). Approximate grade: G-VG (Good to Very Good). The date is bold and the rims are complete, the headdress feathers are separated, and OF AMERICA reads clearly while UNITED STATES is worn and partly weak. The reverse is strong for the grade, with a full wreath outline, leaf detail and a bold ONE CENT. Please note: rough, grainy surfaces with scattered dark spots on both sides, darker toning in the reverse field, light marks on the portrait, a flat spot on the obverse rim at about 3 o'clock, and a weak UNITED STATES. Please see the photos. Composition: copper-nickel (88% copper, 12% nickel) Denomination: 1 Cent About the series: Designed by Chief Engraver James B. Longacre, the Indian Head cent was struck from 1859 to 1909. The 1859 cents have a laurel wreath reverse; from 1860 the reverse changed to an oak wreath with a small shield. The cents were copper-nickel until 1864, when the Mint switched to the bronze composition used for the rest of the series.

| SHIPPING Every coin we sell ships in protective packaging — no exceptions. The exact container depends on the shipping class: for example, our Standard Envelope option is limited to a maximum of 1/4" thickness, so a bubble mailer isn’t used there. Instead, coins travel in a vinyl flip, a thick baggie, or a cardboard flip, whichever best protects that particular coin. We ship daily, Monday through Friday, excluding all USPS holidays. |
| RETURNS / GUARANTEE We maintain (unless otherwise noted on items like bullion) a 30-day, FREE-to-you return policy. All we want is happy customers — if you don’t like what we send, just send it back, free of charge. |
| QUESTIONS? CONTACT US Contact us Monday–Friday, 9–5 EST, with any questions or concerns. Our number one goal is happy customers who buy from us time and time again. If you ever have an issue, please let us know — and remember, our return policy above has you covered. |
| GRADING DISCLAIMER We arrive at an approximate grade using a combination of our own years of experience and, increasingly, Artificial Intelligence (AI).
