Offered here is a genuine 1858-O Seated Liberty half dollar, struck at the New Orleans Mint just before the Civil War. The O mint mark is clear below the eagle, above HALF DOL. This is the No Motto type with no arrows at the date (no IN GOD WE TRUST on the reverse), struck in 90% silver more than 165 years ago.

Grade: Good+. Bold, complete date, all 13 stars, and Liberty's full outline with a full rim all the way around. LIBERTY on the shield is worn away, as is normal for Good. The reverse is stronger than the obverse: the complete legend, HALF DOL., a sharp O mint mark, crisp shield lines and much of the eagle's wing and neck feathers are all clear.

Condition, please read: in fairness, the obverse has a number of fine scratches from circulation, including a long thin one across Liberty's lower gown and others in the fields, plus scattered dark spots and darker gray toning on Liberty's figure. The reverse shows light marks consistent with the grade. Even gray toning overall. Please see all the photos, which are the best description.
