1858 Flying Eagle Cent VG Toned Blue Purple Iridescent Copper-Nickel 1c US CentThe Flying Eagle cent was America’s first small cent, struck for circulation only in 1857 and 1858 before the Indian Head design replaced it. Its soaring eagle, adapted from the Gobrecht dollar, makes it one of the most admired designs of the 1800s and a required coin for any US type set. This exact coin is in the Very Good to Fine range with iridescent blue and purple toning. The surfaces are a little rough with scattered marks. Please note the rim bumps and flat spots at the left side of the obverse and the upper right of the reverse. We have not attributed it to a Large or Small Letters variety.
