1858 Flying Eagle Cent AG Full Date First Small Cent Series Pre Civil War 1cAmerica’s first small cent flew for only three years, 1856–1858, before the Indian Head design took over — which makes every Flying Eagle a piece of the story of how the modern penny began. This is the 1858, the final year of the type. This exact coin is a well-traveled survivor: the eagle is fully outlined with a clear 1858 date, while the legends fade into the rim in places and old scratches cross the surfaces — all shown plainly in our photos and reflected in the About Good letter grade and the price.
