1857 Flying Eagle Cent VG-F First Year of Issue 1C Small Cent Copper-Nickel1857 was the first year the Flying Eagle cent was struck for circulation, replacing the old large copper cent with a small copper-nickel coin. James B. Longacre’s soaring eagle design was only made for circulation in 1857 and 1858, which makes it a popular type coin. This exact coin grades in the Very Good to Fine range with an even olive-gray patina, the full date and clear eagle outline. There are light scratches in the fields, a small green spot near the 1 of the date and a small white spot at the right reverse rim (about 3 o’clock). Please see the close-up photos.
