This is the Type 1 design of 1851–1853 with a plain six-pointed star around the shield. Well circulated Good: the star, shield and date are visible on the obverse, and the Roman numeral III, the ornate C and all thirteen stars show clearly on the reverse. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark). Designed by James B. Longacre.
