1852 Three Cent Silver Trime 3CS G Good Type 1 Pre Civil War US Smallest CoinThe three cent silver, affectionately called the trime, is the smallest coin the US ever struck for circulation — just 14 mm across and well under a gram of silver. This 1852 Philadelphia piece is a Type 1 (.750 fine silver, 1851-1853), born of the postage stamp rate and hoarded away a decade before the Civil War. This exact coin shows honest, even wear consistent with the Good letter grade: the star and shield obverse are fully outlined and the ornate C reverse remains clear. A charming, affordable example of America's tiniest and oddest denomination.
