1851 Braided Hair Large Cent VF Strong Detail Full Liberty Antebellum Copper 1cThe braided hair large cent is the last of the big American coppers — a coin nearly the size of a half dollar that jingled in antebellum pockets before vanishing forever in 1857. The 1851 comes from the heart of the series, struck six years before the large cent was abolished. This exact coin is a strong Very Fine: LIBERTY stands complete and bold on the headband, the braids and bead cords in the hair are sharp, every star is full, and the reverse wreath shows clear leaf detail around a bold ONE CENT. Chocolate-brown surfaces with no major problems — the kind of wholesome, high-detail large cent that collectors reach for first.
