1841 Braided Hair Large Cent N-5 R-3 1C Fine Lowest Mintage of 1840s US Coin

Offered here is an 1841 Braided Hair large cent, a pure copper cent struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of just 1,597,367, the 1841 has the lowest mintage of any large cent date of the 1840s (the other 1840s dates run from about 2.4 to 6.4 million).

Variety: Newcomb N-5, rarity R-3. This coin is attributed to the N-5 die marriage, a scarcer R-3 variety for the date, sought by large cent variety collectors.

Grade: Fine. LIBERTY is complete and readable on the coronet, the hair strands on top of the head and the beaded cords of the bun still show, and the curls at the neck are outlined. All 13 stars and the date are bold. On the reverse, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE CENT are complete and strong, and the wreath is fully outlined with wear on the leaf veins. Denticles show around most of both rims.

Condition, please read: dark chocolate-brown surfaces that are lightly rough (porous) in places, with small green verdigris specks in the reverse fields, mostly around ONE CENT. There are a few light scratches and hairlines in the obverse fields, chiefly in front of the face and to the right of the portrait, and a couple of tiny spots where lighter copper shows at the reverse rim. No holes, bends or major rim damage. Please look at all the photos, which are the best description.
