A gem proof with deep mirrored fields and frosted devices.

The 1963 proof nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the annual proof set, with 3,075,645 proof sets issued. Proof coins carry no mintmark in this era because all proofs were made in Philadelphia. A grade of PF 68 means very high quality with only tiny, hard-to-see marks.

About the series: Felix Schlag won a public competition to design the Jefferson nickel, introduced in 1938 with Monticello on the reverse. The coin is 75% copper and 25% nickel, 5 grams, 21.2 mm. This listing is for one slabbed nickel; we have more than one in stock, so the photo is a representative sample and the certification number on your coin may differ.

Year: 1963

Mint: Philadelphia (proof)

Mintage: 3,075,645 proof sets

Composition: 75% copper, 25% nickel, 5.0 g, 21.2 mm

Grader: NGC

Grade: PF 68 (as stated on the holder)

Label: Thomas Jefferson White House label

Certification number: Varies by coin, listed on the slab

Professionally certified by NGC; the grade is as stated on the holder. The exact container depends on the shipping class: for example, our Standard Envelope option is limited to a maximum of 1/4" thickness, so a bubble mailer isn’t used there.
